Plans submitted to convert Lake District hotel into Aparthotel
A planning application has been submitted to the Lake District National Park to convert the Grey Walls Hotel in Windermere into a 17-unit Aparthotel. The two-storey building, currently in a “dilapidated” state, requires extensive refurbishment. Previous attempts to redevelop the site failed due to high costs and a lack of demand for a public house in the area, along with staffing challenges.
The new proposal, submitted by Graham Anthony Associates on behalf of Cradel Haus, aims to regenerate the property, which has been vacant for nearly five years. The development is projected to generate over £500,000 annually for the local economy and attract more tourism to Windermere. The plan seeks to diversify the accommodation options in the area, offering a range of choices for tourists. Cradel Haus, established in 2022, recently opened its first project, Fair Rigg, in Bowness-on-Windermere. The planning application is currently under review.
