London Stansted records 'busiest day in history'
London Stansted Airport set a new record on 27 October, handling over 107,000 passengers, its busiest day ever, surpassing the previous record of 104,000 set in August. October also marked the airport’s busiest month, with more than 2.6 million passengers, driven by high demand for family holidays and short breaks to popular destinations like Turkey, the Canaries, Spain, and Portugal.
Despite the surge, 99% of passengers cleared security in under 15 minutes. Gareth Powell, the airport’s managing director, highlighted a five-year investment programme aimed at enhancing the airport journey and expanding global connections.
Additionally, £1.1 billion has been allocated to Stansted’s expansion as part of a £2 billion investment in Essex transport infrastructure, including plans by DP World to make London Gateway the UK’s largest container port.
